Installing the BEAT

Can I ‘time-share’ the BEAT on multiple batteries?

Can I put the BEAT® on a battery for a prolonged period, say 6 months, and then treat another battery with the same BEAT® and switch after 6 months again? In that way I can ‘time-sharing’ the BEAT and save costs while the BEAT® is treating 2 or even more batteries

It is self evident that the BEAT® is only effective when it is installed on the battery. The BEAT® works against the ageing of the battery, every time the battery is charged, vastly reducing the sulfation process. However, the BEAT® does more than just reduce sulfation and ageing. The BEAT® enhances the charging process, which decreases the energy conversion losses, consequently reducing the electricity bill and CO2 emissions. Maybe even saving on AC requirements.
Theoretically there is a possibility to ‘time-share’ the BEAT® with more batteries, and have positive results, but having a reduced effectiveness.
For maximum benefit the BEAT® should remain constantly mounted from when the batteries. Preferably from the moment the new batteries are put to use.

Does the BEAT remain on the battery at all times?

Yes. The BEAT® is most effective if it remains on the battery as long as the battery is in effective use. Uninstall the BEAT® during hibernation of the battery. Please check our instructions on Battery Care.

Can I use the BEAT with smaller batteries?

The BEAT®50 can be used on all types of lead-acid batteries ranging from 5Ah to 600Ah batteries, from 6V to 36V. Use the BEAT®200 for batteries of 48V and higher, up to 1000 Ah.

For which type of batteries can I use the BEAT?

The BEAT®50 or BEAT®100 can be used on all types of lead-acid batteries. The present BEAT®products cannot be used on lithium-ion or other types of batteries. As the core technology applies to other battery chemistries also, WaveTech may however develop new products for additional battery chemistries (i.e. lithium-ion) in the future.

Where is the BEAT mounted?

The BEAT® is installed bridging the Plus and Minus pole of the battery. Do not extend the wires of the BEAT®. For more information, please see our detailed installation manual.

Functionality of the BEAT

Can I use the BEAT with smaller batteries?

The BEAT®50 can be used on all types of lead-acid batteries ranging from 5Ah to 600Ah batteries, from 6V to 36V. Use the BEAT®200 for batteries of 48V and higher, up to 1000 Ah.

Up to which voltage can I use the BEAT50?

The BEAT50 is designed for 12 V but three BEAT units can be used to treat batteries up to 36V.
To treat batteries that operate on higher voltages the BEAT200 is being developed.

How can I know the BEAT is working properly?

The BEAT®50 has a blue LED that indicates what the BEAT® is doing. A constantly lit LED means that the BEAT® is in treatment mode; while a flashing LED indicates that the BEAT® is in stand-by mode. If the LED is not lit, then the battery or battery charger may produce too little electric currents for the BEAT® to operate. It can also be that the BEAT® is defective.

What lifetime can I expect of the BEAT?

The BEAT® is designed with a 10 year lifespan, naturally dependent on the intensity of use.
As long as the LED light is functioning, the BEAT® is doing its job.

Can I clean larger areas with the BEAT than without the BEAT?

I have a cleaning machine powered by 12V batteries. Can I clean larger areas with the BEAT® than without the BEAT®?

The BEAT® will keep the battery in a new state and will enhance and optimize the charging process. The performance of a new cleaning machine with new batteries which has the BEAT® installed will very soon outperform a new cleaning machine with new batteries that does not have the BEAT® installed.

Initially new batteries with or without the BEAT® will last a similar amount of time on a single charge, but BEAT® treated machines will maintain their new performance long after non BEAT® treated batteries quickly lose a significant amount of their useful time from a single charge (up to more than 3X longer running time when untreated batteries are ready to be scrapped).

When can I expect to see the first results from using the BEAT?

If the BEAT® is installed on batteries that have been used for a while, the effect of the CCT treatment will be noticeable after 1 to 4 months (in some applications much sooner), depending on the state of the battery, the frequency of use and charging, and various other factors.

Can my battery powered vehicle drive longer distances if equipped with the BEAT?

The BEAT will keep the batteries in prime condition, maintaining their new ‘feel’ for a long time. The electrical energy storage capacity is up to 300% greater than untreated batteries. The greater effective capacity will be noticeable in improved driving range of the vehicle.

What test does WaveTech recommend for stationary batteries?

Can WaveTech recommend a test protocol for me? Are there examples from satisfied customers available?

WaveTech can send you many different types of test protocols; however, the best proof is to just mount the BEAT®, let it do its job and observe the positive results. WaveTech does already have test program results from satisfied customers in the stationary storage sector, should these be desired.

What test protocol sufficiently proves the effectiveness of CCT?

Crystal Control Technology has been positively tested on many types of batteries totalling some 40,000 test results. Many standard battery tests (e.g. EN 60254) certainly will prove the validity of our claims.

Coincidental circumstances may or may not prove results, but a single test can never negate the many result that definitely prove otherwise.

Does CCT treatment make a B-brand battery perform like an A-brand battery?

Yes and no. The effectiveness of Crystal Control Technology will enhance the performance of any battery. A treated B-class battery will perform, measured by several indicators, much better than untreated B-class batteries and may even outperform an A-class battery. However, a badly produced battery will never become an A-class battery. Crystal Control Technology® is not a panacea for all battery problems and battery failure modes.

General question about the BEAT

Is the BEAT produced in the EU?

The BEAT® is presently produced in the UK. WaveTech products, wherever produced, are all in compliance with EU regulations.

Does the BEAT operate only during battery charging or also when discharging?

The BEAT® is programmed to operate only during the charging of the battery. The electrical energy that is needed to generate the electric pulses is taken directly from the battery charger. The BEAT® will never discharge the battery.

Is CCT considered to be a ‘proven technology’?

Our CCT products have been on the market a few years and Crystal Control Technology® has been extensively tested in internal and external laboratories around the world. To our knowledge there is no real equivalent to CCT when considering the extension of lifetime (doubles) and the increased capacity (triples).

How can I calculate the avoided CO2 production (ISO 14001) per BEAT?

Our BEAT products save about 15 to 20% on electricity usage. The decrease in the kilowatt hours consumed can be converted to KGs of CO2 through a simple calculation. The decrease of use of energy translates into a decrease in the production of greenhouse gasses and improves your personal environmental footprint.

Can the BEAT be applied to other battery chemistries (i.e. lithium-ion, Ni-MH)?

The present BEAT® products have been adapted to lead-acid applications only. However, the CCT® core, found within the BEAT® products, can be applied to any battery chemistry, and thus it is possible to create a new product for subsequent battery chemistries.

Can the BEAT be applied to advanced lead-acid batteries (i.e. PbC hybrids)?

Yes. The BEAT® is compatible with just about any lead-acid battery on the market. Batteries made with brand-new technology that is recently introduced to the market could pose an exception. Please contact WaveTech if you have any doubts and before installing the BEAT®.

Some products claim similar effects, with better results, as the BEAT. What is so unique about the BEAT?

In the recent past, other products have been introduced in the market that claimed to improve lead-acid batteries through electric pulses. Our own internal, as well as independent external test programs, have proven that these technologies are far less efficient than our patented Crystal Control Technology® (CCT®).

To our knowledge there are no real competitors in the lead-acid battery market that are equivalent to our product.

Battery Chargers

Which chargers can I use?

Our BEAT® products have been tested with a positive result using several A-class brand battery chargers.

Does CCT make up for a bad battery charger?

The technology of the BEAT® is effective when the battery is being charged. The BEAT® works together with the battery charger and the battery itself and optimizes the functionality of both devices. However, the BEAT® is not a panacea for all remedies.A bad battery charger does not really help improve the lifetime of your battery. The Beat can’t “fix” a defective charger.

Sulfation process

What does the CCT (BEAT) do to my batteries?

This is described in detail in the web page CCT® Technology in Depth.

What is the main cause of battery failure when CCT treatment is applied?

Still sulfation. The sulfation process is greatly slowed down, but sulfation will still eventually bring the battery below operational capacity.

(Note: the BEAT has a very long lifespan and can be without any problems be used on the replacement battery).

The 48V Market

Up to which voltage can I use the BEAT50?

The BEAT50 is designed for 12 V but three BEAT units can be used to treat batteries up to 36V.
To treat batteries that operate on higher voltages the BEAT200 is being developed.

Is there an in-between solution for 48V barreries until the BEAT 200 becomes available?

No. Corporations that consider using our products on 48V batteries must wait for the introduction of the BEAT200. However, in a competent and controlled environment, it is possible to test our BEATproducts. Also on 48V or higher systems.

When will CCT be available for 48V batteries?

The BEAT200 will be introduced to the market Q2 2015.

Can a doubling of lifetime be expected (or proven) for stationary batteries?

Stationary storage batteries already exhibit a substantial lifespan and have an estimate lifespan from 7-12 years. WaveTech can prove that a stationary battery’s lifespan is also significantly increased. The individual results may vary but may even exceed twice the normal lifespan with proper battery management.

However, there are many external factors that influence the lifespan of batteries, not just sulfation. The major benefit that CCT brings to these batteries is cost savings for use of electricity during operation (18%-30%). There may be additional savings because of lower costs for cooling of the room where the batteries are located.

Will CCT solve sudden failure of stationary batteries? How?

The Crystal Control Technology in our BEAT products will make a battery much more stable and predictable as it approaches the end of its life. Untreated batteries exhibit erratic charge/discharge behaviours as they begin to fail due to sulfation, which can lead to a sudden failure. CCT treated batteries “age gracefully”, exhibiting a steady loss of charge acceptance and capacity, maintaining predictable performance degradation at the end of their, already substantially extended, lives.
They do not suddenly fail due to sulfation, as is often  the case with untreated batteries. For further information please refer to the graph in our section: CCT -basics.

Ferrites

When do I need the ferrites?

Our BEAT® products have been approved by the German TUV regarding EMC compatibility. The ferrites actually only need to be attached in special situations where special or very sensitive equipment is used. However, we recommend to always attach the ferrites. Just to be safe. The ferrites may be attached in all installations without hindering the effectiveness of the BEAT®.

Do I void my warranty if I attach my own ferrites or attach no ferrites at all?

No. The surplus electrical energy of pulses is absorbed by the battery.

Do I need to attach the ferrites if the batteries are used as starting batteries?

Ferrites are only required in special situations when very sensitive equipment is used. The BEAT is TUV certified for use with vehicles. In those situations, there is no need to attach the ferrites, but it is still recommended to use the ferrites, just to be sure.

Wanneer moet ik de ferrietfilters bevestigen?

Onze BEAT producten zijn goedgekeurd door het Duitse TÜV met betrekking tot EMC normen (Elektromagnetische compatibiliteit) voor gebruik in voertuigen.
Naar onze inzichten zijn de ferrietfilters eigenlijk alleen maar nodig bij toepassingen met zeer gevoelige of speciale apparatuur. Niettemin adviseren wij om de ferrietfilters altijd te bevestigen. Dat geldt in het bijzonder voor toepassingen van de BEAT in de omgeving van pacemakers, etc. Gewoon voor de zekerheid.

Connected equipment

Is the pulse travelling through the batteries if the batteries are placed in series?

Yes, under certain circumstances, it can.

Does CCT interfere with a battery management system (BMS)?

No, normally not.

Does CCT make up for bad battery management?

It does prevent, and reduce, damages from poor battery management, but the best results are to be achieved in conjunction with good battery management and regular maintenance. Adding water to wet cell batteries is however less frequent necessary.

Can the pulse affect the connected equipment itself?
